France is a large country - approximately four times the size of the UK with a similar sized poulation. There are large rural areas, many of which provide excellent fishing, both in free and organised settings. Northern and Central France are easily accesible, both by ferry and road and by air.

A rod licence (carte de pêche) is required in France similar to that of the UK , although rules vary between the départements (the French equivalent of our counties). Licences are usually obtainable from the local Bar or Tabac in villages, sports shops and some large stores. There are various types of licence, much as in the UK.
